"The body and the breath are our best teachers. By listening to them and pay attention to what they say to us, we can heal our souls and our lives".
Maite Méndez is the founder and principal teacher at Mandalablue Yoga. Opened in 2014, Mandalablue is situated on Gili Air, a small tropical island off the coast of Bali and Lombok, Indonesia.
Maite is a e-500hr registered Yoga Alliance teacher that has travelled the world and completed extensive Yoga training across many disciplines: including traditional Hatha and Tantra Yoga in India, Vinyasa Flow and Aerial Yoga. Yin Yoga, Mindfulness and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) training under the tutelage of Sarah Powers (Australia) and Tina Nance in Ubud, Bali.
Although her first introduction to yoga was through the practice of power and vinyasa yoga, soon Maite´s practice and curiosity lead more towards hatha and slow-paced practices such as yin yoga and meditation.
It is in the practice of Yin and meditative Hatha Yoga, that Maite has found her real teaching passion. Maite believes that the space that is created through this practice, allows the student to really go within. A space that is necessary to really gain the knowledge of the body and the mind at a deeper level.
With a background in the creative industry, Maite knows from own experience the impacts of stress and a settled lifestyle in our lives, bodies and minds.
Over the last five years, it is Maite’s love for travel that has seen her travelling and teaching yoga and meditation in Spain, Germany and Indonesia. Maite loves to share these wonderful practices with others, teaching students of all levels of experience from complete beginners to advanced practitioners seeing the power of yoga has to transform peoples lives.
Maite has hosted and taught on Yin Yoga and Acupressure workshops serving as a mentor and teacher on several Teacher Training programs, certifying many students of yoga in the the discipline of aerial yoga (FlyHighYoga) at Mandalablue Yoga and also as a guest teacher at other studios including Ubud Yoga Centre in Bali.
Maite’s other passions are diving and freediving (specially on the tropical coral reefs). Passions that she loves sharing and combining with her students during the yoga retreats that she organizes under Mandalablue Yoga: "it is all about the breath", she claims.
